The Hermit

ReflectionSolitudeInner Guidance

The Hermit withdraws from the noise to find inner guidance. Hold it as a healthy pause for reflection, not loneliness, and trust the light you carry.

Read the video transcript

The Hermit is card nine: stepping away from the noise to see clearly and look for your answers within. Upright, it invites reflection, solitude and soul-searching. Look at the Hermit: eyes lowered, alone on a snowy peak.

He holds up a lantern, with a six-pointed star inside, and leans on his staff. As a wise guide, his quiet advice lights the next step, and only the next step. Turn the card around, and the solitude tips out of balance: too much, or too little.

You might be isolating yourself because it feels safer, or stuck in your own head. Or you’re so busy you never get the quiet you need to think. Find the balance: time alone to reflect, and enough connection to stay in touch.

In love, it’s a time of reflection: time alone to know what you want, or space for one partner, which isn’t a bad sign. If you feel lonely, reach out. At work, it favours study, research and deep work, and a mentor could help.

With money, think big decisions through on your own, one careful step at a time. And as a yes or no? Maybe, after reflection.

The answer isn’t ready yet: take time alone to think it through, and the right choice will become clearer.

Upright

The Hermit stands alone on a snowy peak, holding up a lantern with a six-pointed star inside, a staff in his other hand. He has climbed away from the noise to see clearly. Upright, the card invites reflection, solitude and soul-searching. It’s time to step back, think for yourself and look for answers within. The Hermit can also be a wise guide whose quiet advice lights the next step, and only the next step, of the way.

Reversed

Reversed, the Hermit can mean too much solitude or too little. You might be isolating yourself, avoiding people because it feels safer, or stuck in your own head. Or you may be so busy that you never get the quiet you need to think. Find the balance: enough time alone to reflect, and enough connection that you don’t lose touch.

Love

In love, the Hermit suggests a period of reflection. If you’re single, you may want time alone to understand what you’re looking for before you look. In a relationship, one partner may need space, which isn’t necessarily a bad sign. Reversed, loneliness or withdrawal could be affecting things; reach out.

Career and money

At work, the Hermit favours study, research, deep work and independent projects. You may be rethinking your direction or looking for more meaning in what you do, and a mentor could help. Reversed, isolation at work or avoiding feedback could be slowing you down.

Yes or no

Maybe

Maybe, after reflection. The Hermit says the answer isn’t ready yet. Take time alone to think it through, and the right choice will become clearer.
