You’ve met twelve spreads. The last skill is the one that matters most: choosing the right one for a question. You’ll match questions to spreads, then read one with Quinn.

- 1Name itwrite the question down, word for word.
- 2Sort itone thing, time, a feeling, love, work, money, home, balance or making things?
- 3Count ithow many parts does it have?
- 4Choosethe smallest spread that gives each part a card.
- 5Readeach card for its position, then the whole.
Choosing a spread is half the reading. A good fit asks the right small questions in its positions, so the cards have a clear job. A poor fit leaves you stretching cards over questions they weren’t asked.
Use the steps above. Most of the time, the smallest spread that gives each part of the question its own card is the right one. When two spreads both fit, pick the one whose positions sound most like the way you’d explain the problem to a friend.
Then read it with Quinn. If a spread from this course doesn’t fit, that’s useful too: bigger spreads, decisions and timing are waiting in Read the Whole Story.
