One Question, Three Ways

Now try it for real. You’ll take one question and read it three ways, with Quinn laying out each spread, then compare what each one showed you.

What this part taught you

  1. One CardOne card for a question with one thing to look at, and a daily pull with an evening look-back.Revisit →
  2. Past · Present · FutureRead each card for its place in time, and the Future card as a direction.Revisit →
  3. Instinct and True SelfRead the first two cards together; the third answers. Instinct is quick, true self is the long view.Revisit →
How to choose a simple spread
  1. 1Counthow many parts does the question have?
  2. 2One partone card.
  3. 3A story over timePast · Present · Future.
  4. 4A feeling you can’t nameInstinct, or True Self for the bigger picture.
  5. 5Anything biggermore cards, chosen on purpose.

Pick a real question that matters to you this week, something you can say in one sentence. Write it down before you start, word for word, so it doesn’t drift between readings.

Read it three ways. First with one card: what’s the one thing to notice? Then with Past · Present · Future: where is it heading? Then with What Is My Instinct Telling Me?: what do you already sense? Use the buttons below; Quinn lays out each spread, and you can ask about any card.

Then compare. Which reading told you something new? Which felt like it answered a different question from yours? Often one spread fits much better than the others, and noticing why is the real lesson: it shows you what your question was really about.

Your exercise

Read your question with each of the three spreads below, then write two sentences: which spread fitted best, and why.

Key takeaways

  1. 1Write the question down before you draw.
  2. 2The same question can be read with different spreads.
